Salute Your Shorts
Be afraid. Be very afraid. A number of horrible things could happen today.
You could lose your wallet. Fall off a ladder. Get chased by a guy in a hockey mask.
Watch your boyfriend wear his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles T-shirt and polyester basketball shorts out in public.
On second thought, you'll take the guy in the hockey mask…
Good news. Your luck is about to turn, thanks to Ryan Ota's new men's shorts, available this weekend at Makkuro Makkuro's first-ever pop-up shop.
You remember Ryan. The Honolulu Community College graduate showed an impressive collection at the Fashion Technology Program's student showcase in April. His "Nugget" shorts are amped up versions of the ones he designed in school.
The 26-year-old used an olive khaki he found in Okayama, Japan, during a month-long post-graduation trip to explore the country and forecast the latest fashion trends. He added unique details, like contrasting panels, button-flap pockets from a vintage Army jacket, leopard print pocket lining, and a drawstring waistband with square eyelets. The result: cool military- and vintage-inspired bottoms that any man would be lucky to wear.
Pieces from his senior collection will also be for sale, including collared shirts and cardigans, raw denim shorts, cropped pants and jeans – a thoughtful mix of urban fashion, military surplus and work wear.
So you can stop worrying about your fashion disaster of a boyfriend and focus on bigger, more pressing problems.
Like surviving the rest of today.
