Salty Western’s Latest Handbag Collection Is a Bohemian Dream Come True

Wild-at-heart fashion fans, rejoice.

Au naturel isn’t just how we like our food and beauty products. Lately, organic textures and earthy materials have also become our go-to’s in the style department, from minimal hemp and linen fabrics in our closets to warm unfinished woods in our interior design schemes. That’s probably why we’re crushing so hard on Salty Western’s latest handbags, leather and cowhide beauties replete with rough-and-tumble charm.

North-Shore-based designer Taira Barron first captured our accessorizing hearts when she launched her boho line last year. Think supple clutches with luscious cognac and coffee patinas, hand-stamped and cut in Hawaiʻi, and scrawled with gorgeous etchings of tropical flora.

For Nostalgia, her latest release, Barron turned to her paniola past for inspiration. The collection’s lookbook, shot by Brooke Dombroski, captures all the whimsy and wildness of her ranching days spent riding horses and chasing cattle on Mauna Kea. Horses gallop across Mokulēʻia’s undeveloped coastline, model Malia Murphy’s hair streams free in the wind with Salty Western’s new roll-top backpacks, bucket bags and buckled cross-body bags in tow.

Raw edges, solid brass rivets and luxe leather in deep washed black, rich caramel and light beige make an appearance, as does soft cowhide in a naturally mottled cocoa hue. It’s a tropical nomad’s sartorial dream.
