Salato clutches

Your outfits say a lot about you, whether you're carefree, edgy, minimalist, preppy, or, in some cases, all of the above. So why is your basic, totally neutral handbag radio silent?

Time to make a statement with Salato's charming line of clutches, wristlets and totes by local designer Katie Evans. The Honolulu Community College fashion graduate mixes vibrant colors, prints, and fabrics to create playful combos that truly sing.

For a real conversation piece, snap up a two-toned foldover clutch – opt for classic colorblocking with black and neon yellow vegan leather or mix it up with striking chevron and florals. Real starfish accents and contrasting bow details add sweet touches.

And don't be swayed by size. A dainty wristlet in wildly doodled skulls or black-and-white paisley can speak volumes, while an ikat chevron or mustache-covered beach bag screams fun times ahead. They aren't all talk either – each bag is lined with sturdy interfacing for added structure and protection.

For now, the collection is limited to bags and one stunning kaleidoscope silk scarf, though Evans plans to add equally eye-catching bikinis and apparel in the future.

We've already declared our love.

Shop Salato in person tonight, 6-9 p.m., at House of Aria, 1140 Bethel St. or always on Etsy. Prices range from $23-$50 with $15 makeup bags debuting at tonight's trunk show.
