Every other Saturday night, F&M takes RumFire—a restaurant by day—and turns it into a nightclub reminiscent of Pearl. Once you get inside past the line, you’ll see a large, central bar, great lighting and décor, with a dance floor set-up on a circular stage to the side of the bar. A walkway from the bar’s open door leads outside to the best VIP lounge I’ve seen on the island, with ottoman-style seating surrounding fire pits directly in front of the ocean. Party planners, this is the VIP lounge you want and its price is about the same as any other club ($150 for 6 people, $300 per bottle, includes mixers).

The place is full of beautiful 25- to 30-somethings and could win RumFire the best-dressed category of all Waikiki nightclubs. But, don’t bother putting on too much make-up, because it will melt right off. It was hot! I witnessed a couple rush in, head straight to the bar and grab a handful of napkins to wipe the sweat off their face. The cool air apparently heads straight out the open doors—along with everyone else who can’t handle the heat. I’d expect better from such a classy place.

Cool off by grabbing a pricey drink ($6 for a Heineken; $12 for a Long Island Iced Tea—high even for Waikiki) and find a spot on the already-crowded dance floor. Watch out for flinging legs, purses and bottles dropping in the tiny space—and say “Hi!” to the poor DJ in the back, whose table is overwhelmed by empty drink cups.
If you like to dance, this is not the place for you. If you want to socialize with friends, then get VIP. It’s no surprise that a club fronting the ocean would be so popular. I only wish that there were more of them to choose from.
