Roy Yamaguchi kicks off his 30th Anniversary Hawai‘i Food Tour, a series of events commemorating three decades of culinary success, on Thursday, Feb. 8, 6 to 9 p.m., with a special evening celebrated at his first eponymous restaurant, the original Roy’s in Hawai‘i Kai. Enjoy an evening filled with live entertainment, wine and cocktails, and, of course, a menu of fine food. Ten of Hawai‘i’s elite chefs, including Yamaguchi himself, will showcase their skills with culinary delights for guests to feast on.

Tickets are $88 per person in honor of 1988, the first year Roy’s restaurant opened. The theme is “Throwback to the ’80s,” and guests are all encouraged to come dressed in era-appropriate rock-band attire. A portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to Kaiser High School.

Roy Yamaguchi

Credited as the innovator of Hawaiian-fusion cuisine, Roy Yamaguchi cofounded Hawai‘i Regional Cuisine in 1991. This movement drew global attention to the Islands as a burgeoning culinary hotspot and paved the way for future local talent. In 1993, Yamaguchi became Hawai‘i’s first James Beard Award-winning chef, an honor that has since been awarded to just two other Island chefs: Alan Wong and George Mavrothalassitis.
