Opening at the Honolulu Museum of Art on July 14 is Salman Toor: No Ordinary Love. The lush, engaging works of New York–based artist Salman Toor destabilize Western notions of gender and power. Drawing from his own life and range of artistic traditions, he conjures images of queer desire and familial intimacy. His scenes—in bedrooms, in bars, on the street—masterfully tell intriguing stories of identity and refresh figurative painting.
