Railing on Rail

It’s short notice, but if you’re free tonight and have any interest in the city’s proposed rail system, there’s a short film and panel discussion in the Honolulu Design Center Cupola from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Panelists include transit expert Phil Craig and Wayne Yoshioka, director of the city department of transportation.

The event is sponsored by The Honolulu Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, which has recently come out against the idea of an elevated railway. It’s not that local architects hate rail transit in general—the AIA officially supports the idea of a fixed rail system—they’re just not happy with the one Mayor Mufi Hannemann is pushing.

Of course, they’ve got an alternative proposal: check it out here:

Agree with the AIA’s idea? Hate it? Weigh in tonight. If previous council meetings and public hearings on rail are any indication, the panel discussion should be rousing.
