Between an unmarked warehouse and low-rise condo on Auahi Street, in Kakaako, a hot pink and chartreuse wall hints at something cool. And there is. Quince, a newly opened, home décor shop skips the usual passé pastel, beach tones in favor of exuberantly colored, giant jacks, playful serving trays and a selection of knitted, geo-printed throws from Darzzi.
Owner Marissa Selders, an alum of Punahou School and prestigious design school Parsons, uses her interior-design background and love for traveling to scope out unique, affordable, under-represented lines with big, bold hues and patterns. “I try to select items that are perfect for newlyweds living in a condo,” Selders explains. “Every piece here has an inviting feel, and turns your home into a happy place where friends can hang.”
This is not the place to score a big-ticket showpiece. Instead, you’ll find a wealth of exceptionally cool little items that no one else has, guaranteeing a unique look for your home.
The shop’s other bright ideas include retro-themed wall clocks, glossy kitchenware, modern desk décor and mighty metallic robots. Not sure how to add all this fun to your abode? Pick up one of the many how-to-style books resting throughout the store or snag some design tips from Selders, who still offers interior-design services.
If a twist of colorful charm is all you need to keep your pad grounded, then look for the yellow brick wall.
Quince, 683 Auahi St., 371-4413.
