If you’ve ever encountered one of Cassandra Rull’s dresses or tanks, you know that they’re quite the experience. Each piece is a patchwork of buttery knit fabrics, slip one on and every inch of skin it touches breathes a collective sigh of relief.
Now, the Haleiwa-based designer is lending the same supple hand to a new line of pillows. Long board pillows to be exact, inspired by Rull’s affinity for the ocean and an itch to switch up her design mix. “About five years ago, I made a few circle pillows and thought it would be great to bring those back in a different shape. The board came to mind because I love to surf,” she says.
The floral and geometric prints are classic Rull, bold and eclectic. And the details follow suit. “The fin is one of my favorite parts to pick out, I always use a fun print, and I make sure that the stringer is a bright color or stripe,” says Rull.
Made from the same cozy blend of Spandex, rayon and cotton as her clothing, the pillows are nearly impossible to pick up without instinctively giving them a squeeze. A common sensation, confirms Rull, “Almost everyone who sees it gives it a little hug!” $58 each, available at Local Motion, Ala Moana Center, 979-7873.
