Old Hawai’i needs your help
Last August, in collaboration with the Historic Hawai‘i Foundation (HHF), we published a list of the nine most endangered historic places in Hawai‘i. Our aim was to call attention to important buildings, monuments and even landscapes at risk of slipping through our fingers. Among those most in need of salvation then: The Old Maui High School, The Falls of Clyde and the War Memorial Natatorium. Of course, there’s no shortage of significant sites worth preserving in Hawai‘i. We’ll publish an all-new “most endangered” list this November, and HHF is now accepting nominations from the community for the list. The “most endangered” designation won’t guarantee preservation, but it does help raise awareness and spark community action. Got a favorite old building or historical spot that you’d hate to see disappear? Let HHF know by July 17, and then watch for it in the November issue of HONOLULU Magazine. |
