After almost two years and $460 million worth of construction, plywood and noise, Waikiki Beach Walk is finally ready to go—this month marks its grand opening. Here are a few reasons locals might want to get over their aversion to Waikiki and check it out:

All the wavy stuff:
Design geeks will get a kick out of the swoopy canopies along the walk that draw inspiration from outrigger canoes and ocean wave forms.

The shopping:
Finally, an ABC Store in Waikiki! And Crazy Shirts! And Wyland Galleries!

The treats:
OK, so the shopping’s not the most resident-oriented. But there’s plenty to nosh on: Beard Papa Cream Puffs, Mondo Gelato and a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

The restaurants:
Roy’s Waikiki means townies won’t have to drive to Hawai‘i Kai or Ko Olina for a melting hot chocolate soufflé. And the Yard House, a popular Mainland chain making its Hawai‘i debut, features more than 130 different beers on tap.
