Ossipoff-Designed House on Market for $3.5 Million

This Ossipoff-designed home in Diamond Head is listed for $3,450,000.

A fan of the work of architect Vladimir Ossipoff (yes, even the hotly debated IBM Building), I’m experiencing a bit of real estate envy with this house, a Diamond Head stunner that displays many of the details for which Ossipoff has come to be known: whitewashed masonry, exposed concrete, natural finish woods, picture-window walls, large overhanging eaves and lanai that act as extensions of the interior spaces.

The residence is perched on a 7,691-sq.-ft. lot overlooking nearby hillside homes and several popular surf spots, including Kaikoo’s, Cromwells and Browns. Covering just over 4,000-sq.-ft. of living area, the interior spaces are light as air, breezy, elegant yet casual with free-flowing transitions behind indoor-outdoor spaces made possible by pocketing glass window walls. Natural materials abound, including wood-paneled ceilings, whitewashed lava-rock walls and marble floors.

The kitchen feels like a bit of a departure from the living room, a sleek, contemporary space with gray granite countertops and granite floors and glossy, laminated-wood cabinets. The streamlined space is tempered by almost 180-degree ocean views and a large window that opens up to reveal the lanai and an outdoor bar area, a cozy little spot ideal for a laid-back Sunday brunch followed by a dip in the blue-tiled saltwater swimming pool.

There are six bedrooms total, all en suite, and each opening up to a large lanai (yes, every room has a view). With the exception of the master bath, which is bedecked in top-to-bottom marble, the six additional full baths and powder room have been finished in colorful—think brilliant blues, greens and yellows—French tiles. Again, they’re a bit of a departure from the home’s overall design, but the colors nicely echo the ocean vistas and add some fun pops of color to the otherwise neural palette. “[The homeowners] have been there for over 25 years,” says listing agent Kai McDurmin. “The bathrooms and kitchen have been remodeled and are not of the original design, however the architectural lines of the home have been kept to reflect the contemporary style with warm, organic finishes.”

Money talk: The home is listed for $3,450,000 fee simple.
