Open house pick of the week: Wilhelmina Rise

Wilhelmina Rise continues to be a very desirable neighborhood for various demographics and lifestyles—and why not? It's close to Kahala Mall, Diamond Head, Waikiki, UH and the very eclectic Kaimuki area.

Here’s a home—and a fairly large one, at that—that seems to be a pretty good price for the neighborhood. (Click here for details.) Although it sits low on the rise, you still get a bit of ocean view. It has four bedrooms and two bathrooms under 1,824 square feet, which includes the separate downstairs area for guests, multi-family living, or a rental. The garage houses two cars, but there's ample street parking.

It's been renovated, but the owners took great care to preserve its character: the original redwood walls were kept in some parts of the house, and the vaulted ceilings are of wood, not drywall. Outside, there's a terraced garden with citrus trees in the back, which is a nice touch and typical of such older neighborhoods. The current owners are probably only the second family to live there; this area doesn't get a lot of transition, if at all.

While you might live a retro lifestyle here, you can still enjoy the home's modern touches, like nice granite counters, custom hardwood cabinets and new appliances.
Happy house hunting!
