Open house pick of the week: Wailupe

There are certain neighborhoods that we don’t know a lot about, simply because homes rarely go up for sale in the area. Wailupe Circle is one of them.

"Most people don’t sell in that area,” says realtor Joyce Nakamura, who recently got a listing there, on The Peninsula. It’s so rare, it’s the only listing available. (Click here for details.)

Most of the lots here are big, which is hard to find in town. This property is 12,549 square feet and is right on the water, with deeded, gated access for kayaking. The single-level, 2,585-square-foot residence was built in 1951 and, like yesterday’s featured home, has a longtime fruiting mango tree in the yard.

“If you know your mangoes, you know how delicious white Piries are,” Nakamura says. “The owner says he’s going to miss that tree.”

There are 2.5 bathrooms, three bedrooms and a den, which can be converted into a fourth bedroom. Some renovations were done in 1998 or 1999 and, when the current owners bought the home nine years ago, they added central air conditioning and all-new Pella windows.

Nakamura adds that the price for the lot size and location is good, too—the last two sales in the area were around $2 million. Due to the price point, about 40 realtors came to her brokers’ open this week and she’s had several more showings.

The home will be open this Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Happy house hunting!
