Open house pick of the week: Waialae Nui

I used to run up Kilauea Avenue on the mauka side of Waialae Avenue and wish I could live there—it’s quiet, convenient, on a bit of a hill and seems like a really safe neighborhood. Inever saw “for sale” signs, though, so I know that my wish is a long shot.

This listing in Waialae Nui isn't just a rare find because it’s for sale, but also because it’s under a million dollars. The three-bedroom, 2-bath home is a nice size at 1,844 square feet, and the lot is a spacious 8,375 square feet. (Click here for more details.)

In addition, the previous owners have taken care of some costly renovations recently; the home features a newly remodeled kitchen and new bathrooms.

The exterior is attractive, but not extraordinary; once you walk in, however, you’ll find the interior has lots of character with pops of color as well as unique angles and cutouts, interesting textures and bright woods.

The kitchen has large, custom-built cabinetry with a wood finish that is a theme throughout the house with other large, custom-built furniture like the window seats, desks and a cool loft space with ladder access. The extra-big island in the middle of the kitchenincludes a large breakfast bar, as well.

One of the cool elements is a row of single-pane windows in the living room that let in lots of natural light and overlooks the terraced gardens along the patio.
For those that like a front lawn, this home’s yard is a nice size, perfectly manicured and surrounded by new fencing, which is a great plus for dog owners.

This home will be open from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Happy house hunting!
