Open house pick of the week: Waialae Iki

You don’t have to be into ships or the sea to enjoy this unique, split-level home on Laukahi Street, and it’s probably a place your guests will love. (Click here for details.)
“This home was built for entertaining, from keiki parties through all the generations,” says owner Valerie Davis. “Myriad friends have gathered here—from the popular bar area to the al fresco dining area to the lower level.

“Much of this entertaining has been done around the very large, blue tiled pool, which has a porthole looking into it from the lower living room,” Davis adds. The porthole is a fun feature that sets it apart from other homes, I’m guessing as a nod to Davis’ work with the cruise ship industry over the years.

The updated kitchen opens to the pool deck, which is another convenience for entertaining. The 2,167-square-foot residence has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and an office/den. The master-suite area is separate from the other bedrooms.

The view is also quite spectacular, with ocean, Diamond Head and coastline views. Since it’s on the lower part of the ridge, Davis says you can actually see the whales that come to play from November to May.
The home will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. this Sunday. Happy house hunting!
