Open house pick of the week: Puunui

Before you read the rest of today’s blog, I’ll just tell you up front: Don’t call the number listed at the bottom. Just show up on Sunday for our open house pick of the week. (Click here for details.)

When realtor Freda Young entered it into the MLS 10 days ago, she made a point to write that its first showing would not be until August 26. Within two hours, she had five phone calls. Since then, she’s had so many calls for it that she had to put a special recording on her phone to inform people that if they were calling about this Puunui home, she would not call back—interested buyers simply need to attend the first open house, when the owner was ready to show it.

“It’s priced a little above the assessed amount and the home does need work,” Young says. “But people just want to live in the area. There was another listing up the street that had about 15 offers, so the people who weren’t selected for that are trying again with this one.”

Young isn’t sure if it’s the price, the desirable Maemae School district, or just the area itself; she figures she’ll find out on Sunday what’s causing the frenzy of interested buyers. It’s been such a hot item of interest, people have already offered cash and/or have shown up to look at it, only to be turned away until its first open house.

It’s an older home, built in 1958, with three bedrooms and 1.1 bathrooms. The lot is 5,300 square feet and the house is 1,340 square feet. It was tented in December, the interior and exterior have fresh paint, and the owner worked on the new bathroom, kitchen floor, and water heater. The enclosed lanai has bathroom with a new sink and toilet, but an unfinished shower.

If you miss Sunday’s open house, there will be a broker’s open the following Wednesday, August 29, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Happy house hunting!
