Open house pick of the week: Pacific Heights

This home on Pacific Heights is so new, the paint is still drying. But it’s done, it’s on the market and it’s open this Sunday. (Click here for details.)

It’s owned and was built by Larry Pring, who used to build a lot of homes on Hawaii Loa Ridge. The 5,497-square-foot residence is one of two on a CPR lot, but the other home is located on the area below—the two simply share the driveway and trash area.

Aside from the fact that it’s gorgeous, huge and has a great view, one of the interesting things about this home is its abundance of storage. There are huge closets, of course, but also storage under the roof line, in the garage and in every room. I asked realtor Beth Chang why Pring built it that way.

“I sit open house every Sunday. It gives me a chance to talk to people about what they are looking for in a home and provides me with insight for the developers I work with,” she explains. “In addition to energy-saving elements, one of the most common requests that customers have is for more storage. They say many builders make beautiful homes, but rarely provide enough storage. And, as you know, people do collect stuff over the years.”

A man who listens. Imagine that. And this home is a result of those discussions.

The garage is an oversize 700 square foot area, with a cute studio/loft cottage above it. The storage area in the garage is large enough to be used as a workshop, depending on your preference.

There are four bedrooms, six bathrooms, and two half-bathrooms in the home. The master suite is located on the middle floor, and it is set up so there’s almost another room in it. This was made to give the new owners flexibility with the area and build it to their needs: as a large closet, a TV room, a nursery area, or office.

“This, like the other parts of the home, has a flexible layout, because they didn’t know who would be buying the home,” says Chang.

The home will be open this Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.; if you miss it, it will be open again on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Since there are two homes in the same driveway, make sure you go to 3101A Pacific Hts. Rd., not 3101. Happy house hunting!
