Open house pick of the week: Hawaii Kai

If you like living on the water, you’re in good company. This Mariner’s Cove listing, open this Sunday, seems to be in a neighborhood favored by Hawaii sports figures.

The current owners bought the four-bedroom, two-bathroom home from baseball legend Sid Fernandez in 1997 for $560,000. Former UH basketball coach Riley Wallace was a one-time neighbor; former Warrior football coach Greg McMackin is just two doors down. (But hurry, Coach Mack currently has his home on the market.)

The 2,340-square foot, single-level residence has high ceilings and an open floor plan, which are great, but the real attraction is its particular location on the marina, which is an exceptionally wide, expansive part of the waterway. You could take advantage of that by adding a dock, which could accommodate a 50-foot boat.

“It’s the best value on wide marina frontage in Hawaii Kai. Currently, there are four marina front homes on the market ranging from $1,275,000 to $1,985,000 on the same street,” says listing agent Darouny Hu of Kahala Associates. (Click here for details.)

The home is open on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Happy house hunting!
