Open house pick of the week: Ala Moana

If you’re a shopaholic, the location of this condo couldn’t be any better. Across from the Ala Moana Shopping Center, the building is on the corner of Piikoi Street and Ala Moana Boulevard.

But you don’t have to be retail-inclined to enjoy this spot, Ala Moana Beach Park is makai across the boulevard ready for all sorts of fun in the sun.

This two-bedroom, two-bath corner unit, on the 14th floor, is in great shape and will be open for viewing on Sunday. The kitchen and bathrooms were redone within the past five years.

“The unit is so quiet,” says realtor Shirley Judge of Prudential Locations LLC. “You would not know you’re in the middle of Ala Moana.”

The kitchen sports a fun, black-and-white motif and has a pass-through into the living/dining area. However, the two clocks set with time zones for Hawaii and the East Coast won’t remain. The owners, who are recently retired, are headed back to the Boston area to be closer to family. The extra clock acted as a handy reminder so they wouldn’t wake their children when calling to say hello.

Off of the bright living room is a decently sized lanai where you can gaze at the sunset or take in the ocean views.

The owners will be leaving behind 32-inch wall-mounted flat-screen TVs in each bedroom. A washer and dryer are located in the second bathroom.

Though 1350 Ala Moana was constructed in 1968, it has been well maintained. The common areas have been recently upgraded, as well.

Amenities include a heated, saltwater pool, a whirlpool, a jogging path, a putting green and two barbecue areas, all on the third-floor recreation deck. A large, grassy common area is perfect for a quick after-school game of catch. There’s also an exercise room and a party room with a full kitchen.

Fuzz factor: Unless it’s medically necessary, you can’t bring along your furry friends.

The price includes one covered parking stall. There’s no guest parking, but if you have any overnight guests, it’s no problem. The building has a deal with the shopping center. Just ask for a pass from the resident manager and they’ll be able to at Ala Moana as long as needed.
