Open House Pick of the Week: Aina Haina

Even if realtor Eathan Ozawa had not told me this week’s featured listing was the home he grew up in, I would have picked it for the open house blog. As you’ll see in the photos and video, this isn’t a property you get to see — much less buy — very often in Hawaii.

Built in the 1940s, there are three island-style beach cottages and a separate elevated studio on the 13,912-sq. ft. corner lot (about one-third of an acre) at the end of a private lane. Although the property shares a pool and spa, you could just as easily go to the beach, since it has more than 70 linear feet of unobstructed beachfront.

The current owners — Ozawa’s parents — have lived in this spot for 35 years and have decided to downsize their empty nest. It’s clear that the grounds and the homes have been well-maintained through their family transitions.

There are five bedrooms and five bathrooms, total, with a combined 2,829-sq. ft. of living area. You also get five parking stalls in the three-car garage and carport. Driving to and from this property isn’t too bad, either; it’s just 10 minutes from town and within walking distance of the recently renovated Aina Haina Shopping Center.

As the Ozawa kids help their parents pack up, they might want to also check out one of my past blogs on selling your childhood home.

The first sunset open house will be this Sunday, July 27, from 2 to 7 p.m. Click here for more details; click here for more photos.
