Open house pick of the week: 909 Kapiolani

There’s been a lot of buzz about the Kakaako redevelopment plan that will make the area a cool neighborhood to live, work, and play. 909 Kapiolani is right in the middle of that redevelopment, so it’s becoming a hotspot to move into.
Previously, I blogged that no Hawaii neighborhoods cracked the top 300 “walker’s paradises,” according to walkscore.com—neighborhoods scoring 90 or higher based on the website’s analysis. However, if you drill down to specific addresses, 909 Kapiolani actually scores a very rare 90.1 on the site. And no wonder: It’s across the Blaisdell Center, close to the many restaurants along Kapiolani and Ward, and convenient to the beach and shopping.

This 607-square-foot, one-bedroom listing in the building is one of eight units available there right now. (Click here for details.) This particular one, however, has the added bonus of being on a high floor and position as a corner unit.

The current owner—who is moving to a three-bedroom condo in a newer building—initially chose the place because it has an amazing view of Ala Moana “Bowls” from the living room, so he could check the waves before he went out to surf.

The building is only five years old, so no renovations have been done; however, the owner installed track lighting in the living room and expanded the medicine cabinet in the bathroom to provide more storage and a larger mirror.

The living room has solar shades, while the bedroom has blackout curtains (since the sun rises from the east and this helps preserve sleep patterns for you night owls).
This unit is a definite must-see for people who want to be close to all the action, present and future. While you’re there, check out the other units available, as well.
Happy house hunting!
