On the Flip Side
This time around, keep the rolls strictly on your plate with a few Pilates lessons courtesy of the new Upside-Down Pilates studio, which opened its doors downtown Founded by former professional dancer, Lisa Orig, the fully equipped studio will have your head spinning (and abs burning) with sessions of inversion work, flips and handstands.
Forget the Thanksgiving pants. Last year you stuffed your face with so much stuffing that you needed an entire Thanksgiving closet.
Not a pro at turning every which way? Not to worry. The studio offers plenty of group and solo classes on Pilates fundamentals, resistance band work and balance balls, along with several multi-week series focused on beginning mat and equipment work. There’s even a pre-natal class for mamas-to-be.
Orig, who recently received her MFA in dance from UH Manoa, made sure to also include classes designed specifically for dancers, like the Pilates improvisation dance class in which students perform at Slow Art Fridays.
So you can keep the stretching in the classroom,
and out of your waistband.
