Off The Cuff

When Form met Function, it was a perfect fit – dark and handsome, very smooth, and went with everything.

No, they aren’t a couple of love birds who just found true harmony, but two opposite aesthetics becoming one in the bentwood coffee cuff – a gorgeous, just over two-inch wide, wood veneer cuff bracelet that lives a double life as a java jacket.

Available in black walnut, bird’s eye maple, or benge wood veneer from reclaimed architectural offcuts, this cuff was framed around an everyday take-out coffee cup and can be whipped off in a flash to rescue your palm from the heat. It’s just one elegantly sustainable offering by Vancouver’s Contexture Design duo Nathan Lee and Trevor Coghill, which also got them featured in the New York Times Style Magazine.

But now these cuffs (and Contexture’s funky wood dog-tags) are available right here in Honolulu at So‘mace, a cutting edge gallery shop featuring work by local designer Kaypee Soh and other artists (like Domingos Totora’s craft paper and banana fiber vases and bottles) inspired by nature and sustainable design.
