who
Maryam Fortuna planned a career in dental hygiene, but after a whirlwind few years, during which she met the love of her life and became a mom to three of her four boys, she began dreaming about fashion. Helming the popular mom style blog Milk Friendly fueled her passion and in 2013 the Sunset Beach designer launched Of One Sea, creating the cool keiki tees she could never find for her own brood. “I wanted something minimalist and beautiful with meaning behind it,” she says. “The brand is built on the idea of unity—we are all waves of one sea.”

Shining Sea: The Mauka Collection boardshorts are crafted with a four-way-stretch fabric that includes fibers made from recycled plastic.
what
Fortuna graduated from tees to keiki swimwear and casualwear. Next came matching adult swimwear. Deciding what to make came naturally. “I added on things I wanted for my own family,” she says. All featured her playful graphics inspired by Hawai‘i’s landscape. Now Fortuna is evolving her brand even further, releasing her first women’s ready-to-wear collection for Resort 2020.

wear
Snap up the collection’s easygoing women’s jumpsuits, rompers and overalls. There are no tropical patterns here, just pared-back silhouettes and lovely natural fabrics, including floaty linen, double-backed muslin and French cotton terry. Not that she forgot the kiddos—the mix also includes adorable matching girls pieces. And the fellas should keep an eye out for a new range of dad-and-grom boardshorts, sporting fresh sea leaf, banana flower and dried palm prints.
