Dear Diary,
Fashion Week has come to an end. While my heart aches for more, my head is filled with so much inspiration, I’m excited to get home and channel my own creativity. To recap the rest of my experience being immersed in all things fashion, I thought I’d share a few of my NYFW favorites:

Hottest Trend

East really did meet West on the runway this season. I am impressed by the amount of Asian influence I’ve seen in multiple collections and even model choices, but my favorite example of the trend is from Haiping Xie (above). The garments at the show were composed of mixed textiles in beautiful Asian-inspired prints and color schemes. In fact, some of the finale pieces were so fantastic, they took my breath away.

Best Shoe

I know what you’re thinking … you can’t believe those Birkenstock-esque sandals became trendy! Well, I’m here to tell you that not only are they haute, but they are runway-worthy: Vivienne Tam featured these fun buckled sandals paired with sheer striped socks in her show. Thus far, I’ve rejected the trend, but now, I'm thinking: What’s not to love about a cross between fashion and comfort?

Best Makeup

Award for my favorite makeup concept goes to Erin Fetherston’s modern take on the '90s Kate Moss style. The brand's key makeup artist used everything OCC (Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics) to complete this fresh and feminine look. Her must-have item for the season is Lip Tar Primer mixed with Lip Tar in Lament to achieve that sheer, barely-there tint. I personally loved how she used the Cosmetic Colour Pencil in Feathered (white) on the inner corners of the models' eyes and waterline to get that doe-eyed look.

Best Street Style Outfit

One of my favorite aspects of NYC is the opportunity to appreciate all the fashion the city has to showcase—on and off the runway. I admire the variety of personal style, ranging from the minimalist to the ludicrous, but I’ve chosen this particular outfit as my top pick. I love the classic color palette, accented by the pop of turquoise in the clutch. I find the blazer absolutely beautiful and I can’t get over the leather fringe waist belt! It is the perfect balance of clean, elegant and fashionably innovative.

Favorite Behind-the-Scenes Moment

As a stylist and designer, it was a dream come true to shadow renowned fashion show producer Lynne Hanzawa O’Neill. She is incredible! Her attention to detail, from model choreography to sound and lighting, is impeccable. She runs a very efficient backstage team to help with the process—it was mind-blowing to see how much work goes into completing these large-scale productions. I can't wait to bring all I’ve learned to my next show.

New York, you never fail to impress and inspire me. I will dream of your city lights and the possibilities you hold. Until next time …

XO,
Summer
