New Senior Facility Coming Soon to Waikīkī
Kalākaua Gardens breaks ground.
Hawai‘i’s quality of life means many people live longer here, but that also spurs a growing need for more senior living facilities. The latest kūpuna living community broke ground today on the edge of Waikīkī, and is slated to be complete in 2015.

Kalākaua Gardens, located at 1723 Kalākaua Ave., is a 30,000-square-foot property near Kapi‘olani Boulevard across Century Center. When finished, the project will have a 17-story tower with both single and companion suites, a dining facility, an exercise yard, a courtyard, landscaped walking paths and water features. It will house more than 200 residents: 49 beds for the skilled nursing facility, 55 for memory care, and 112 for the assisted living facility.
Developed by Island Paradise Investments together with Avalon Health Care Group, the project will feature a state-of-the-art rehabilitation center. Kalākaua Gardens also includes commercial space located on the first two floors.

The jobs created are an additional benefit to the community. More than 300 positions will be created in the construction phase, and about 200 in the healthcare/facility management phase (nurses, nurse’s aides, and physical therapists).
