The gals at Fighting Eel could have just stuck to their ubiquitous line of color-strong, throw-on-and-go pieces found in every local fashionista’s closet. But this season, designers Rona Bennett and Lan Chung had an itch to do something new.

Recently debuted in boutiques all across the state, Fighting Eel’s new line of keiki fashions, Ava Sky, is inspired by Chung’s daughter, Ava, and her love for pretty, bright things. The line’s hand-dyed rayon and printed silk pieces are playfully lightweight and machine washable—two keys to kid-friendly fashions.

Twirl-happy dresses and comfy rompers compose most of the collection, but the line is only at its beginning stages. “Currently we’re concentrating on sizes 2 to 8 years old, but Rona and I are planning a long stay in Bali this summer to further develop the line,” says Chung. Moms should also keep an eye out for an Ava Sky adult’s line. Fighting Eel Kailua, 629 Kailua Rd., Suite 130, 738-9301.
