New Boutique: Island Bungalow in Kailua
This little shop is our new home and boho-apparel headquarters.

There’s no place like home, although, with our busy schedule, home’s been looking a little worse for wear. Er, ignore that pile of clothes in the corner. And that mismatched bedding that could use a good wash. Oh, and don’t mind the sad-looking throw pillows that saw their best days 10 years ago. Time for a house swap.
Head over to the home where our heart is, aka Island Bungalow on the Windward Side. This sweet little store was opened earlier this year by the brains behind Ward Village’s (now closed) Chai Studio and it’s got a house style we are loving. At the new digs in small-town Kailua, the Island Bungalow team has had a chance to get their homegrown, house-made gears going by ramping up the shop's own line of clothing and working directly with artisans for a specially curated collection of textiles, homewares and décor.
Get ready for an around-the-world aesthetic in the selection of throw pillows and bedding, from rich red geometric patterns to rustic indigo with cheery polka dots. Shoppers are greeted with a full bed display, tricked out with a range of international patterns and eclectic textiles—perfect for gathering inspo for your own abode. We’re also loving the breezy, free feel of the store's slew of clothing designs: Think no-fuss floral jumpers, textured palazzo pants and ultra-comfy maxis that we want to live in.
The boho-chic gals running the show are led by owner Amerjit Ghag, whose eye for earthy style and weekly workshops made Chai Studio a destination for Zen. At Island Bungalow, she’s keeping her D.I.Y. tradition alive with even more crafty classes, including ones on block printing, indigo dying and even meditating.
Can we just move in?
