Most Wanted – June 2012

Lei Chic

In roughly 24 hours, women everywhere will flock to the movie theaters to watch some of Hollywood's hottest men strip down to their… raw emotions.

We're talking about Madea's Witness Protection, of course.

And when that time comes, we'll be sitting front row center. Loving life. Almost as much as all the other awesome stuff we're loving this month.

What can we say? They all have that Magic touch.

Style Description: Wants Michael Kors, Giuseppe Zanotti, and Phillip Lim to live in her closet (even though some of them have already come out) – Accessories addict with an urban tilt.

Lei Chic I've discovered the two most dangerous apps in the world. Gilt's mobile app still has ultra-detailed photos and descriptions, is simple to swipe through and makes it infinitely easier to stalk those must-have items someone is holding in their cart for now. RetailMeNot automatically plugs in discount promo codes at checkout, meaning no more tricky memorizing when you're shopping on the run.
Download Gilt's app here and RetailMeNot's iPhone app here.

Lei Chic Organizing my wreck of a workspace has been a monthly, failed resolution. This adorable Owlsey desktop set may not solve my out-of-order problems, but its cheery colors are definitely a welcome distraction.
$29.99, Simply Organized, Kahala Mall, (808) 739-7007.

Lei Chic So there are only two original songs, but listening to the a cappella group Pentatonix beatbox through a cover of Someone I Used to Know on its debut album PTX, Volume 1 is definitely worth the $6 price tag. As a bonus, cough up the additional $1.29 to download previously-recorded Video Killed the Radio Star, Dog Days Are Over, and/or Heartless.
$5.99, available for download on iTunes.

Style description: If Marc Jacobs married Zooey Deschanel – Feminine fashion-forward silhouettes with a vintage spin.

Lei Chic While our main meal was wonderful, it was the dessert menu at Spices that my friends and I were still buzzing about days after our latest dinner. Skipping all of the usual suspects, the tiny Southeast Asian-style restaurant went straight for the gusto with an adventurous selection of homemade sorbets and ice creams in flavors such as Chili Pepper Lemongrass, Kaffir Lime, Pineapple Basil, Okinawan Sweet Potato and Pandan.
Spices, 2671 S. King St. #D, (808) 949-2679.

Lei Chic During a recent visit to the I AM. shop, I was stopped in my tracks by a shelf of Lava Roses (one of the store's in-house lines) leggings topped with outrageous, look-at-me prints that ranged from adorable robots and polka dotted skulls to bunnies in outer space. At first glance they just seemed crazy, but after slipping one on I realized that when worn with off-duty basics like pocket tees and slouchy tanks, they added the perfect amount of punch.
$35, I AM., 1221 Kapiolani Blvd. #111, (808) 593-2767.

Lei Chic I'm a huge fan of director Wes Anderson's magical worlds and am thrilled to see that his latest flick Moonrise Kingdom has finally arrived in Hawaii. Better late then never right? Set on an island off New Engand, the story follows two 12-year-olds who fall in love in the summer of '65 and run away into the wilderness with a violent offshore storm on the way. Hot on their trail is a medley of loveably offbeat characters played by the likes of Edward Norton, Bill Murray and Bruce Willis. Can't wait!
Consolidated Theaters, Kahala Mall.

Style Description: If Jonathan Adler and Kate Spade had a love child (okay, Simon Doonan can come along) – Preppy casual with a color explosion.

Lei Chic My PC was born when I used to watch Beverly Hills 90210 – the original. So I figure it's time to get with the program and dish out the money (bye-bye Gilt fund!) to buy a practical yet stylish laptop. All of my IT peeps recommended Dell for its durability and user-friendly properties. I like the switchable lid options (I'm opting for peacock blue), which will add a pop of color and reboot my PC life.
Starting at $549.99, Dell.com.

Lei Chic A free sample of chocolatey goodness isn't the only reason to stop by See's Candies. Its Summer Berries box of too-good-to-be-true truffles combines the natural, refreshing sweetness of blueberries, strawberries and raspberries with an indulgent, swoon-worthy chocolate coating. Summer just got a little bite better.
$9.10 for 8 oz. box, See's Candies, Kahala Mall, (808) 737-9592.

Lei Chic I don't know if I should share this one because Aloha Rag carries such few quantities of each piece, but here goes… This Surf Bazaar mid tee is pure summer perfection. Made out of lightweight Indian cotton gauze, it's ideal for the sticky, no-wind days we've been having. And the sea foam green playing against the Sunkist orange trim is hue-rific.
$110, Aloha Rag, 1221 Kapiolani Blvd., (808) 589-2050.

Lei Chic Terri
Style Description: Classic, clean lines a la Kate Middleton with a pop of Rachel Zoe. Constant quest for the perfect fitted jacket and heels.

I was never much of a dress person, but now that summer's here, all I want to do is throw on something cool and comfortable. This embellished T-shirt dress fits the bill perfectly with its soft polyester-spandex blend and fuss-free fit; and unlike my other "comfy" outfits, the fun pop print, subtle sequin detail and exposed back zipper won't make me look like a slob. Plus, it was on sale!
$59, Armani Exchange, 2270 Kalakaua Ave., (808) 923-1663.

Lei Chic Keeping a journal is something I've always meant to do, but never had the time. This gorgeous Mudlark leather-bound journal might be the push I need. I can't stop admiring the embossed cover with its whimsical floral design, and its colorful pages are just begging to be filled.
$23, Honolulu Museum of Art, 900 S. Beretania St., (808) 532-8703.

Lei Chic One bite of Vino's juicy oven-roasted Maine lobster with creamy risotto and heaven will appear before your eyes. Perhaps it's the tarragon buerre blanc and smoked trout caviar, or crisp asparagus and fresh Oregon porcini mushrooms. For me, it's the restaurant's mind-blowing happy hour deal – half-off regular menu prices at the bar between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. For more divine inspiration, order the warm apple tart with vanilla bean gelato and a caramel sauce so delicious, you'll want to bathe in it.
Vino, Restaurant Row, (808) 524-8466.
