Molly Payne's Hawaii-based Alola line

Sunny Business

They have subways, we have SUP.
They have the three-piece suit, we have the two-piece swimsuit.
They have the briefcase, we have the beach bag.

Doing business can look a little sunnier in Hawaii. Which is why, after a stint at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in LA, Molly Payne couldn’t resist returning to her home state and investing in the Island's—by launching her design business here, a fashion line called Alola.

Payne has been groomed to be a captain of (the fashion) industry for years, helping her mother run her store, going on buying and design trips and working on brand development and awareness. Alola started with clothing until Payne expanded her chic portfolio to include adorable pineapple-print clutches and travel bags that are already making a killing on the market. When it comes to supply and demand, she’s got these Islands covered.

Prep for your next “board meeting” on the beach with Alola’s tropical wide-legged pants and flirty, printed shorts. Or, capitalize on the line’s laid-back style with airy silk trapeze dresses and drapey oversized tees—they’re so comfy, you’ll want to wear them way past your normal 9 to 5.

Looks like your closet’s about to have a net gain.

You can find Alola bags and clutches at Rebecca Beach Kahala, 5000 Kahala Ave. #2, 739-8862, open 10 a.m.–7 p.m.; and Rebecca Beach Waikiki, 2259 Kalakaua Ave. #7, 931-7722, open 9 a.m.–9 p.m.; or go to to shop the whole collection.
