Lots of views: Pacific Heights

Many people associate 96813 with the zip code for downtown Honolulu: towering office buildings, running the rat race in the urban jungle, and writing for prominent local magazines.

Yet, just on the edge of that zip code, you’ll find quiet residential areas in Pauoa and Pacific Heights. So after a frantic morning downtown, I took a break and drove up the hill to see the home at 2992 Pacific Heights Rd., since I had heard it had an amazing view.

Pacific Heights is an old neighborhood; realtor John Peterson says that one of Hawaii’s territorial governors lived in a lot above this one. However, this home is new and custom built with an uber contemporary design, as well as appliances, lighting, and flooring. As nice as the house is, though, it’s only part of the package. I recall walking around the house and admiring each room, but for the life of me can barely remember what the interior looked like because all I could focus on was the view.

There’s an empty lot below this property, so the panorama of 96813 (and 96817, 96819, and beyond) is unobstructed. It was so vast, I had to take a video of it because I couldn’t capture it all in a photo.

The home offers 1,860 square feet of living area, but it sits on 20,038 square feet of land — this is because there are two lots in this listing. Maybe build an additional home with a view? Well, you can decide as you sit on the lanai, surveying the kingdom of downtown Honolulu.
