Listed at $3.2 million, the expansive property features three main structures: a large A-frame house, a one-bedroom cottage set about 100 feet from the water line and a gazebo with a Jacuzzi attached. The main house has four bedrooms, including a semi-exposed loft space with closets and a private bathroom. According to the property’s current owner, Reed Copsey, this unusual space boasts the second, best ocean views in the house. The living room has the best views. “More panoramic,” he says.

Talking to Copsey, it’s hard to see how he’ll ever let go of the deed; he’s full of appreciation for this slice of country life. “One of the things I love most about it is that at night you can see the band of the Milky Way. Even on a clear night in Kaneohe, you can’t see the Milky Way,” he says.

Other natural attractions? Hawaiian monk seals occasionally visit on shore and shearwaters abound. The federally-protected birds are bold around their human neighbors, and it’s not uncommon to receive a light pecking during a night time walk from the main house to the Jacuzzi. The bars and restaurants of Turtle Bay Resort are just 10 minutes away if you’re looking for more conventional creature comforts.

Other features of the house include three full bathrooms, wrap around lanais with views of Mokuaia Island, and a storied history. Besides being featured in an episode of the original Hawaii Five-O, the Kamehameha Highway address is remembered around the neighborhood as a former party house. According to the tales Copsey has heard, the previous owner was famous for throwing over-the-top shindigs for his friends from town (imagine partygoers riding horses painted to look like zebras).
