Daniel S. Choi
Dr. Daniel Choi is a fellowship-trained cataract, refractive, and corneal surgeon. After graduating at the top of his class at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Medicine, Dr. Choi completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Miami Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, ranked the number one eye hospital in the nation for the past 20 years. At Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Dr. Choi trained with world leading experts in LASIK, laser cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, and ocular surface tumors. His unique expertise in treating the most challenging and severe eye conditions has allowed him to excel as a clinician and surgeon and take on leadership roles at an early stage in his career.
Since arriving in Hawaii, Dr. Choi has been routinely referred difficult cataract surgeries and complex corneal surgeries from other eye surgeons. Additionally, through patients referring their family and friends, Dr. Choi has become one of the busiest and successful cataract surgeons in Oahu. Patients have benefited from his expertise in modern techniques to cataract surgery where patients are expected to see clearly from day one and with less dependence on glasses. Dr. Choi also receives referrals from eye surgeons throughout the United States as a recognized leader in his specialty.
Dr. Choi was recently named as one of the youngest members to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Preferred Practice Panel. The panel sets the standards for eye care in the United States. Dr. Choi has also been an invited expert lecturer on cataract surgery and instructor on corneal transplantation at national meetings. Locally, Dr. Choi is committed to ensuring Hawaii has the best eye care for decades to come. Dr. Choi is one of the few professors at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine appointed to two departments. He serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery and as a Clinical Instructor for the Family Medicine department. He hopes to help mentor expert surgeons and increase eye disease awareness for all health care providers. As a partner at Cataract and Vision Center of Hawaii, he looks to build upon the tradition of over 40 years of expert care and provide the best possible eye care for the community.
Outside of work, Dr. Choi enjoys surfing, golfing and spending time with his wife and two young children.
