Thomas S. Kosasa, M.D.
As the founding physician of Pacific In Vitro Fertilization Institute, Hawaii’s first established IVF clinic, Dr. Thomas Kosasa has assisted couples and individuals who have struggled to achieve pregnancy. Pacific In Vitro first made headlines for Hawaii’s first “test tube” baby in 1985, and has since delivered more than 6,700 babies. With two board certified physicians and an on-site Ph.D. laboratory director, Pacific In Vitro brings experience, knowledge, and the highest quality of care in a supportive environment to couples who have tried to start families without success.
Dr. Kosasa has practiced obstetrics and gynecology for over 50 years and in that time has delivered over 10,000 babies – more than any other Hawaii physician. He rose to the rank of Major in the U.S. Army; is an accomplished pilot and flight instructor with an ATP rating; is a seasoned race car driver with a first-place finish in the North Atlantic Road Racing series driving a Porsche. Dr. Kosasa has led an exciting life. But nothing excites him more than bringing a new life into the world. For decades, he’s helped countless mothers through childbirth with his experience, technical expertise, and kindness.
In addition to helping thousands realize their dream of starting a family, Dr. Kosasa has also influenced new generations of physicians. As a professor emeritus and past chief of reproductive endocrinology at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, he has been teaching and sharing his vast knowledge and perfected techniques with medical students and residents for more than 30 years. Dr. Kosasa views teaching as a privilege and continues to have a student with him for every delivery – furthering his impact on future physicians and adding to his number of special deliveries – 10,000 and counting.
