Learn from a Chef

Throughout the year, a number of Hale ‘Aina Award-winning restaurants will offer special opportunites to enjoy an immersive culinary experience, interacting and learning some delicious recipes or cooking styles from their chefs.

Here’s a look at three such classes being offered this month at Hiroshi Eurasion Tapas, 3660 on the Rise and The Kahala Hotel & Resort.

 

Cooking with Hiroshi

Chef Hiroshi Fukui of Hiroshi Eurasion Tapas leads a series of cooking demos using every day ingredients you find at home! The demonstrations serve as both a great learning experience and a chance to enjoy some great food and talk to Chef Hiroshi.

The first demonstration on Tuesday, January 5th: "How to make Dashi and Tempura" sold out, but there are 3 additional offerings though for you to enjoy:

  • Monday, January 11th: "Noodles" – Soba, Somen & Udon
  • Tuesday, February 9th: "Contemporary Sushi"
  • Tuesday, February 23rd: "Island Fish"

Cooking demonstration and a four course dinner will be served.

The cost of the demonstrations is $45 per person(plus tax or gratuity).

Cooking with Chef Russell Siu

Chef Russell Siu (3660 on the Rise and Kakaako Kitchen) hosts a cooking class on Thursday, January 14th.

You are invited to come and learn some of chef Russell’s tips and tricks as he opens his recipe book to you. The classes take place at his 3660 on the Rise restaurant location and includes a four course dinner along with wine pairings.

Here is a look at the 4 course menu:

  • Seafood Tortellini in a Yuzu butter sauce and Kabayaki drizzle
  • Cream of Mushroom Soup with prosciutto cracklin’
  • Soy Sake Glazed Filet of Butterfish, Ginger Choi Sum & Shiitake Mushrooms and Aka Miso Dashi Mage
  • Double Lemon Pie

The classes begin promptly at 6 p.m. and seating is on a first come, first serve basis. Limited seating, by reservation only.

The cost to participate is $65, inclusive of tax & service charge.

Cooking with Chef Wayne Hirabayashi

On January 23rd, The Kahala’s executive chef Wayne Hirabayashi (Hoku’s and Plumeria Beach House) hosts a cooking demonstration on cooking and eating heathier. Join him in the Waialae Ballroom from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for "Healthy Hawaiian Kitchen With Chef Wayne – A Culinary Class Of Healthy Dishes."

Chef Wayne will show you how to prepare a variety of wholesome and delicious meals

The cost to participate is $50 (excludes tax & service charge) and that fee includes the demonstration and a special healthy lunch.
