Keiki in the Kitchen Recipe Contest and Cooking Classes
(Sponsored) A Recipe Contest & Cooking Classes for Keiki Chefs
Hawai‘i’s young chefs have a chance to make halloween-themed treats, meet celebrity chefs, and even win a trip to disneyland.
Know a talented keiki with the drive to become Hawai‘i’s next superstar chef? Now’s their chance to show off their culinary creativity with an original recipe. The Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival (HFWF) is calling on young chefs to submit their best recipes for the ‘Hawaii Gas Presents Healthy Lunchtime Challenge for Keiki’.
Young chefs ages 8-17 can enter a dish featuring local ingredients through September 30 for a chance to win a Disneyland prize package valued at nearly $7,000. Three finalists in two age groups (8-12 & 13-17) will be invited to prepare and present their dish live to celebrity chefs Bobby Chinn, David LeFevre, and Lee Anne Wong on October 29 at Ko Olina Resort.
“We can’t wait to see what these culinary whiz kids come up with for our third contest,” says HFWF Chief Executive Officer Denise Yamaguchi. “We’re always blown away by their creativity.”
Children can also learn how to whip up fun Halloween-themed treats. Just added to the Keiki in the Kitchen® line-up: ‘Roberts Hawaii School Bus presents Keiki Cooking Classes’. Natalie Aczon, General Manager of Mahina and Sun’s, will show children how to create spooky Halloween-themed treats including sandwiches, pizza, and parfaits.
Keiki in the Kitchen® will also feature autograph signings with celebrity chefs, ‘The Best of Eat the Street’ food trucks, a farmer’s market, Hawai‘i Made Marketplace, activities, and live entertainment.
