Hawaii’s tourism industry wrapped up 2008 on a sour note, with hotel occupancy rates dropping to barely 50 percent. But as with any kind of terrible news, there’s a silver lining for kamaaina: deep discounts on rooms, as much as half off the regular rate or more, and perks such as free breakfast.
