The Kahala Hotel and Alan Wong’s King Street restaurant are places synonymous with celebrating life’s important moments. In celebration of the resort’s Legacy of Aloha experience package and the grand opening of Alan Wong’s Kāhala on March 25, we are hosting a contest that we hope will evoke memories of special occasions you’ve cherished over the years. Whether it was an anniversary dinner, milestone birthday or even the dish that got you hooked on chef Alan’s cooking, we want to hear them all.
One winner will receive a Legacy of Aloha experience at The Kahala Hotel and Resort which includes accommodations for four nights in a beautifully refreshed room, daily breakfast for two at Plumeria Beach House, a one-time $150 dinner credit to be used at Alan Wong’s Restaurant and a one-time $100 spa credit to use at The Kahala Spa. If the winner stays between March 25 and April 7, they will also have exclusive access as a resort guest to enjoy dinner at Alan Wong’s before it opens to the public on April 8.
The Legacy of Aloha package, available to book through Dec. 20, 2026, also grants guests a multitude of complimentary services including free Wi-Fi, Hawaiian cultural classes, bicycle rentals and more. A minimum four-night stay is required for this package.

This Contest is sponsored solely by Honolulu Magazine, 1088 Bishop St., LL2, Honolulu, HI 96813 (“Sponsor”).
This Contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Instagram, Facebook, or any other social media platform.
- ELIGIBILITY.
“The Kahala Legacy of Aloha Contest: Memories of Alan Wong’s”(the “Contest”) is open only to individuals who are legal U.S. residents of the State of Hawaii and eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of entry.
Void outside Hawaii and where prohibited or restricted by law.
Employees, contractors, officers, and directors of Sponsor, The Kahala Hotel & Resort (Prize Provider), their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, divisions, suppliers, distributors, and advertising and promotional agencies (collectively, the “Contest Entities”), and members of the immediate families (spouse and biological, adoptive, or step-parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, siblings, and each of their respective spouses regardless of where they reside are not eligible to win.
- CONTEST PERIOD.
The Contest begins at 12:00 a.m. HST on March 1 and ends at 11:59 p.m. HST on March 14 (the “Entry Period”). Entries received outside the Entry Period will not be eligible.
Sponsor’s computer is the official timekeeping device for the Contest.
- HOW TO ENTER.
During the Entry Period, eligible participants must submit an original, first-person written memory (250 words or fewer) about their experience at Alan Wong’s King Street restaurant via the official submission link provided by Sponsor (the “Entry”).
Optional photographs may be included with submission.
Limit one (1) Entry per person during the Entry Period. Multiple entries from the same person may be disqualified at Sponsor’s sole discretion.
By submitting an Entry, the entrant represents and warrants that:
- The Entry is original and created by the entrant.
- The Entry does not infringe upon the rights of any third party.
- Entrant has obtained permission from any identifiable individuals referenced in the Entry.
- The Entry does not contain material that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise inappropriate.
Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any Entry that does not comply with these Official Rules.
- STORY SELECTION & PUBLICATION.
Submitted Entries may be reviewed by Sponsor’s marketing team for possible inclusion in a curated “Memories of Alan Wong’s” feature in print and/or digital formats. Selection for publication will be based on emotional resonance, storytelling quality, and diversity of experiences, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion.
Publication of an Entry does not increase or decrease the entrant’s odds of winning the Contest prize.
- WINNER SELECTION. JUDGING CRITERIA.
One (1) potential winner will be selected based on merit by a judging panel designated by Sponsor and The Kahala Hotel & Resort (the “Judging Panel”)
All eligible Entries will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Emotional impact and authenticity of the memory (40%)
- Storytelling quality and clarity (30%)
- Creativity and originality (20%)
- Relevance to the theme “Legacy of Aloha” and connection to Alan Wong’s King Street (10%)
Each Entry will receive a score based on the above criteria. The Entry receiving the highest total score will be deemed the potential winner.
In the event of a tie, the Entry with the higher score in the highest-weighted criterion (Emotional Impact and Authenticity) will be selected.
Judging will be conducted on or about March 20, 2026
All decisions of the Judging Panel are final and binding in all matters relating to this Contest.
Because this is a skill-based contest, odds of winning depend on the quality of eligible Entries received.
Sponsor reserves the right not to award the prize if, in its sole discretion, no Entry meets the minimum standards of quality as determined by the Judging Panel.
- PRIZE.
One (1) winner will receive a “Legacy of Aloha” prize package, which includes:
- Four (4) night stay at The Kahala Hotel & Resort
- Daily breakfast buffet for two (2) at Plumeria Beach House
- One-time $150 dining credit at Alan Wong’s Restaurant (subject to availability and applicable promotional dates)
- One-time $100 spa credit
- Additional inclusions as determined by Sponsor and prize partners
Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”): $4,500.00
Actual value may vary depending on availability and date of redemption. Any difference between stated value and actual value will not be awarded.
No cash alternative, transfer, or substitution of any prize will be allowed except Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of comparable or greater value if the advertised prize becomes unavailable for any reason.
Accommodations and reservations are subject to availability, blackout dates, and the terms and conditions of the prize providers.
Prize Terms & Conditions
This offer is available for a limited time only, now through December 20, 2026. Applicable for stay dates March 25, 2026 through December 23, 2026. Spa credit is redeemable at The Kahala Spa and dining credit is redeemable at Alan Wong’s (closed on Sundays & Mondays). Credit is valid towards treatments such as massages and facials, and does not include nail treatments, retail products, or gift certificates. Credit does not cover tax and gratuity and may not be transferred/gifted to another recipient, redeemed for cash, or be replaced if lost or stolen. Any credit not used by check-out will be forfeited. Offer cannot be combined with other promotions or discounts. Not applicable to existing reservations. Subject to blackout dates.
- WINNER NOTIFICATION & REQUIREMENTS.
The potential winner will be notified via the contact information provided at entry.
To claim the prize, the potential winner may be required to:
- Provide valid government-issued photo identification
- Complete and return an Affidavit of Eligibility
- Sign a Liability Release and Publicity Release
- Complete an IRS Form W-9
If a potential winner:
(a) cannot be verified as eligible;
(b) fails to provide required documentation;
(c) declines the prize;
(d) fails to respond within the timeframe specified by Sponsor; or
(e) is disqualified for any reason,
the prize may be forfeited and an alternate winner selected.
- TAXES.
Any valuation of the prize stated above is based on available information provided to Sponsor. The value of the prize awarded to the winner may be reported to the Internal Revenue Service as required by law.
The winner is solely responsible for reporting and paying any and all applicable federal, state, and local taxes associated with acceptance and use of the prize.
Any person winning over $600 in prizes from Sponsor in a calendar year will be issued an IRS Form 1099 reporting the value of the prize(s). Winner must provide a valid taxpayer identification number or Social Security number prior to prize distribution.
- PUBLICITY & CONTENT LICENSE.
Except where prohibited by law, by entering and/or accepting a prize, entrant grants Sponsor and its designees the right to use entrant’s name, likeness, voice, image, city of residence, and Entry in any and all media now known or hereafter developed, worldwide, in perpetuity, for editorial, promotional, and marketing purposes without further compensation.
By submitting an Entry, the entrant grants Sponsor a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to edit, adapt, publish, reproduce, distribute, and display the Entry (in whole or in part) in print, digital, social, and promotional materials. Entrant waives any moral rights in the Entry to the extent permitted by law.
- DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES.
Sponsor makes no warranties, and hereby disclaims any and all warranties, express or implied, concerning any prize furnished by third parties in connection with the Contest.
WITHOUT LIMITING THE GENERALITY OF THE FOREGOING, SUCH PRIZES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
- RELEASE; LIMITATION OF LIABILITY.
As a condition of participating, entrants agree that the Contest Entities and their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives, and agents (“Released Parties”) shall have no liability whatsoever for, and shall be held harmless by entrants against, any liability for injuries, losses, or damages of any kind to persons, including death, or property resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from participation in the Contest or acceptance, possession, misuse, or use of any prize.
Entrants waive all rights to claim punitive, incidental, consequential, or any other damages other than actual out-of-pocket expenses.
All causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action.
- GENERAL CONDITIONS.
Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual found to be tampering with the entry process or acting in violation of these Official Rules.
Sponsor reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the Contest if fraud, technical failures, or other causes impair the integrity of the Contest.
The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Official Rules shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions.
Sponsor will interpret these Official Rules and resolve any disputes, and Sponsor’s decisions shall be final.
- USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION.

Personal information may be shared with third parties for the purpose of prize fulfillment.
- GOVERNING LAW.
All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of these Official Rules shall be governed by the laws of the State of Hawaii.
- BINDING ARBITRATION.
Any controversy or claim arising out of or relating to the Contest shall be settled by binding arbitration in accordance with the Federal Arbitration Act and Hawaii law.
Arbitration shall be conducted on an individual basis only. Entrants waive the right to participate in a class action.
If any portion of this arbitration provision is deemed invalid, the remainder shall remain in full force and effect.
