J Salon and Winam Hair Studio settle into new locations
Now that spring is here and you're ready for a breath of fresh hair, we wanted to give you a heads up: two of Honolulu's top salons just moved. Below, a peek at their new digs and where you can find them. No need to wig out.
Ward Plaza, 210 Ward Ave.
Size: 3,800 sq. ft.
No. of stylists: 9 with 7 assistants
Why the move: Landlord Howard Hughes Corp. took over the old space to create a showroom floor for its planned Kakaako development.
Design concept: Minimal, clean, and modern with high-gloss cabinets, dark wood floors, floor-to-ceiling windows and a beautifully-landscaped outdoor terrace.
Executed by: DKKY Architecture Studio and Dumore Construction.
Signature service: Haircuts range from $55-$125 depending on the stylist, color options here with a specialty in blondes.
Parking: Along Ward Plaza and Auahi St. with designated stalls inside the parking structure and open parking on Saturdays, all free.
To schedule an appointment: Call (808) 550-4441 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Winam Hair Studio
1122 Kokohead Ave., Suite 2
Size: 625 sq. ft.
No. of stylists: 1
Why the move: Hair stylist Hillary Juliette's original location — in a converted garage on Winam Ave. — wasn't exactly legal (being named one of ELLE Magazine's top salons in America last year didn't help either).
Design concept: Industrial zen with Buddha heads and abstract art.
Executed by: Juliette's husband, a designer friend, and multiple trips to ROSS.
Signature service: "Green" dry cut with no shampoo for $35 and lively, side-splitting conversation.
Parking: Metered street parking along Kokohead Ave. (Juliette provides quarters if you're out) and adjacent municipal lot for 75 cents per hour. Mahina St. is unmetered if you don't mind crossing the street.
To schedule an appointment: Call (808) 922-1444 or email email@example.com.
