Hawaii’s oldest and largest cycling event, the Honolulu Century Ride, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 28 and will gather around 4,000 participants. The event’s courses range from 20 to 100 miles long; each course has an aid station at the halfway point where the rider backtracks to Kapiolani Park.

Patricia Dunn rides either the 50 or 75-mile course with her husband, Gary. “We got matching bikes for our 25th wedding anniversary,” says Dunn. Although a competitor can finish the 100-mile course in a few hours, the Dunns make a day of it, stopping for lunch at Cinnamon’s Restaurant in Kailua along the way. Says Dunn, “We treat the ride like a grand tour around the south shore.”
