On Sunday, Sept. 30, Herringbone became the proud recipient of the 35th annual Hale ‘Aina Best New Restaurant award, one of the Islands’ most prestigious dining honors. Since joining International Market Place in the summer of 2017, the SoCal-based restaurant’s “fish meats field” food philosophy, which favors ingredients sourced locally, and elevated California-coastal design has become a welcome addition to Hawai‘i’s culinary landscape and evolving farm-to-table movement.
This local-first approach to food goes beyond Herringbone’s ingredients. Joining the restaurant on stage to receive its Hale ‘Aina award was the restaurant’s new executive chef, Gary Tamashiro, a born-and-raised O‘ahu native whose Island heritage brings a new level of authenticity to the restaurant and its mission to support local farmers, fishermen and ranchers. Joined by chef Tamashiro, Herringbone celebrates a new milestone of success and looks toward a future with Island diners and the food businesses that keep Hawai‘i’s food industry thriving.
