It’s possible—you really can live near the ocean on O‘ahu without spending $1 million or more on a home. You’ve got to be willing to rent and, in some cases, remain open to neighborhoods and buildings you may not have considered. Here are a few rentals right on the water we found that are available now.

For gorgeous waters and wide beaches, head west, where you can rent an oceanfront studio with a full kitchen and one covered parking stall for $1,500 per month at Mākaha Shores. The ocean couldn’t be any closer, and there’s often killer surf right outside the door.

The Gold Coast, at the quiet end of Waikīkī, is home to 20 condominium buildings along the water. While prices can be high for the most luxurious of the buildings, there are some more reasonable rents available, too.
