Healthy Parents Raise Healthy Kids

Being healthy is something you can teach a child by being a good role model.

The expression, “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” is one I apply to health and fitness. Healthy parents are more likely to raise healthy kids. Lazy parents tend to reap, you guessed it, lazy, unhealthy kids. Children look to parents for guidance in many aspects of their lives. Being healthy is something you can teach a child by being a good role model.

Here are some great tips:

• Refrain from things you know are bad for you. If you eat healthy, you’re showing your children that eating healthy is the way to go.

• Exercise as a family. Go out and play together. Do something fun that will help you bond as a family.

• Sleep well. Establish a bedtime routine for you and your children.

Old-School Fun

Many fitness boot camps and trainers are going back to old-school, functional training and mixing exercise with things we used to do as kids. Playground moves, such as crab, bear and duck walks, inch worms and wheel barrels, all work your core, arms and legs at the same time. How about a game of tag? Fun variations can improve agility, coordination and reaction time.
