This Memorial Day, the pavilions at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Punchbowl are joined by a new addition, this one commemorating those who served in the Vietnam War.

The pavilion was carefully constructed to match the existing ones, from its travertine blocks to the colorful mural depicting a map of the war’s conflicts. Architect Louis Fung, whose firm designed the pavilion, says seeing the memorial unveiled last October was a humbling experience.

“I have never seen such emotions from the veterans,” he says. “They felt it was a mission fulfilled, finally honoring the veterans of the Vietnam War in this way.”
