'Hawaii Five-0' Costume Designers Reveal Local Fashion Favorites

As megahit 'Hawaii Five-0' wraps up its third season, show costumers and locals Erika Aresta and Michael Fong share their favorite island shopping spots and the brands they reach for, on and off set.

Manuhealii Kaiwi Kiwi Shock men’s pullover aloha shirt, $54.

Andy South Lenka skirt, $195.

LOCAL Brands For the Show

Michael Fong: Manuhealii and Rix have very bold designs and work well for local party scenes. Manuhealii has more of a retro-Hawaii feel and Rix designs are a little unusual. 5 Hoolai St., 808-261-9865.

LOCAL Fashion Designer

Erika Aresta: My all-time, favorite Hawaii designer is Ari Southiphong. Her Andy South collection is all about beautiful, ultra-feminine lines and elegant fabrics. Andy South Atelier, by appointment only, 12 S. King St., 808-744-1167.

Andrew Mau Shaka bronze bottle opener, $100, Fishcake.

Martin and MacArthur natural-edge carved Koa bowl, $445.

LOCAL Little-Known Shop

MF: Fishcake in Kakaako is good for home furnishings and decor. It’s got such an unusual collection of items. When shopping for someone who has everything, you can usually find something there. 307 C Kamani St., 808-593-1231.

LOCAL Island-Inspired Gifts

EA: Martin and MacArthur stocks great Koa wood pieces. I love to stuff their bowls with local goodies and ship them as gifts to the mainland. Waikiki Beach Walk, 808-447-2797.

Alii Kula Lavender Lavender Rosemary Gardeners Salve, $24.95.
Chenoa Double Leaf Tahitian pearl earrings, $220.

LOCAL Beauty Buy

MF: Alii Kula Lavender’s Lavender Essential Oil, Lavender Rosemary Gardeners Salve and Lavender Body Butter Creme. If you’re on Maui and make the drive up Haleakala, definitely stop at the farm. It’s very beautiful and calming. Island Vintage Organic and Natural, Royal Hawaiian Center, 808-923-3383.

LOCAL Jewelry Line

EA: Chenoa of Kailua makes beautiful jewelry incorporating Tahitian pearls. Designer Chenoa Salmon made me gorgeous two-tiered gold earrings. Muumuu Heaven, 767 Kailua Road., 808-263-3366.
