Hawaii Doggie Bakery opens Manoa store
Prim and Paw-per

Dear Tabby: My relationship with my pooch has gone to the dogs. How do I get back in her good graces? ~ In the Dog Pound
Dear In the Dog Pound,
Show her some puppy love by woofing it over to Hawaii Doggie Bakery. The traveling business, which has been a farmers' market mainstay since owners Niki and Tasha Libarios took over last year, just opened a brick-and-mortar shop in Manoa Square over the weekend.

Clockwise from top: Doggie Bento, $7.50, Football Mini Cakes, 2 for $5.50, Paw Lickin' Lasagna, $4.50. | |
You no longer have to wait to get your paws on these delicious, freshly-baked treats. Vet-approved favorites, like the Paw Lickin' Lasagna made with spinach, cheese and Okinawan sweet potato, or Doggie Bentos with beef "manapua," chicken "dim sum," and tuna-and-sweet-potato "won ton," are now available every day of the week, which means you've got no excuse not to pamper your pup.
Delicate stomachs will appreciate the frozen Woofles, or heart-shaped soft waffle sandwiches (tip #1: the cream cheese filling is perfect for hiding pooch-unapproved pills), while football fans will hound you for Football Mini Cakes (tip #2: throw them in the freezer now and, come game day, microwave, thaw, or serve them chilled). Everything is salt-, butter-, sugar- and preservative-free and made with mostly local ingredients, thanks to the sisters' close relationships with fellow farmers' market vendors.
Make sure you peruse the new section of locally made pet products for Filthy Farmgirl's Muddy Puppy natural soaps, doggie bow ties and leashes by Hawaii Handmade Gifts, poop bags and belly bands from Shaka Dog Hawaii, and whimsical dog-centric (people) T-shirts designed by Mililani-based idkwhat2wear. There's also a puppy photo corner with pet-sized velvet throne and magnetic signs, and, coming soon, a walk-up window for easy ordering and furnished backroom for parties and training sessions. One visit and you'll rekindle that animal attraction in no time.
Just don't ask me how to make fetch happen. You'd be barking up the wrong tree.
Hawaii Doggie Bakery is open daily, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., at 2961C E. Manoa Rd. in Manoa Square. For more information, visit www.hawaiidoggiebakery.org.
