All about elegant attention-demanding details, the new Eze Collection from local label m33ms (pronounced “meems”) is named after the African Igbo tribe word meaning king. Funny then, to learn that it was actually the everyday queens in designer Emiko Miyazawa’s circle who inspired the collection. “Over the past year, so many of the women in my life were either pregnant or gave birth,” she says.
At first glance, you notice the stately shapes, geometric and clean-lined with a slight industrial feel thanks to the matte sterling silver. Upon closer inspection, Miyazawa’s chosen silhouettes are “almost womblike,” she says. Several sets of earrings fit together perfectly like chic puzzle pieces. “It’s like a mama and baby,” she explains—one was born from the other.
Clockwise, from left: EZE PENDULUM LONG EARRINGS, $465. Eze Spear earrings, $237. Eze Propeller earrings, $175.
The collection also includes oversized emerald- and orb-shaped cocktail rings and a necklace strung with two sphere halves. True to form, Miyazawa outfitted several styles with clever components that allow the pieces to be worn multiple ways. In a few simple moves the necklace transforms into a lariat. All of the earrings are capped with ball backings that can be reversed to become the front. And the beads on the pendulumlike drop earrings can be assembled into seven different arrangements.
Despite their substantial profiles, all are surprisingly lightweight. Miyazawa opted for paper-thin metal and furnished select pieces with hollow elements. “I wanted them to reflect the way in which a pregnant woman is bold and delicate at the same time,” she says.
