Grin And Beer It

There’s a big brew-ha-ha tonight.
Haven’t heard?
It’s the weekly House of Brews beer tasting that happens at Bar 35 every Wednesday at 6 p.m. You’ll taste eight beers, and get expert insight from beer guru Andy Baker, who runs www.beer808.com and is co-owner of Hawai‘i Nui brewery.
Just show up sometime around 6, grab a seat anywhere and Baker will be by to get you started with brew samples from the night’s theme (tonight it’s beers of the Pacific Northwest). He’ll also give you tasting notes that give a rundown on flavors you’ll notice, the beer’s ingredients, and other tidbits of info.
Each beer is up for discussion too, and tonight you can chat personally with the brewers from Oregon’s Deschutes brewery. So you’ll truly be able to tell the difference between an IPA (India Pale Ale), like the Deschutes Inversion, and an imperial IPA, like Deschutes’ Hop Henge.
That should quench your thirst for knowledge.
House of Brews beer tastings, every Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bar 35, 35 N. Hotel Street, Chinatown, 808. 537.3535. Cost is $20 per person for 8 beer samples, plus a ninth sample free.
