It’s report card time again. For the third year, we’ve compiled official DOE data on 259 public schools statewide and used it to grade and rank our schools. How are students faring on the state’s standardized tests? Are these children, their parents and their teachers satisfied with their schools? You’ll find out here.

This list ranks the government-run public schools by overall score, from 1 to 259.
Refers to the “Grading the Public Schools” list in our May 2004 issue, the last time we published the chart.
The statewide school system is divided into seven administrative districts, including O’ahu’s HONolulu, CENtral, LEEward and WINward districts; the Big Island’s HAWai’i district; Maui, Moloka’i and Lana’i’s MAUI district and the KAUa’i district.
Percentage of teachers responding to the DOE’s 2005 School Quality Survey who strongly agree or agree with the statement “I would send my own child to this school.”
Percentage of parents responding to the DOE’s 2005 School Quality Survey who strongly agree or agree with the statement “I would recommend my child’s school to other parents.”
Percentage of students responding to the DOE’s 2005 School Quality Survey who disagree or strongly disagree with the statement “If I could, I would go to a different public school.
Percentage of students whose proficiency meets or exceeds Hawai’i Content and Performance Standards (HCPS III) in Math, the state DOE’s base line for determining whether schools meet academic benchmarks under the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
